Wayne Ballet Theatre offers dedicated students 18 and under, the opportunity to perform along side professional dancers and guest artists. Pre professional students who wish to further their training and performance experience are invited to audition. Along with the excitement and rewards of performing, students learn about all of the hard work behind the scenes and get an idea of the kind of commitment necessary for a career in dance. Through rehearsing along side more experienced dancers, they take their training to the next level and begin develop artistry. The classroom focus is primarily on technique so it is important for any student considering a career in dance to have performance experience.
Company membership requires a significant time commitment and is not for everyone. Nutcracker auditions are held in early September and dancers can expect to rehearse Friday evenings, and Saturday afternoons. As we get closer to the performance date, rehearsals are often held on Sunday afternoons as well.
Students must meet the Formal Program class requirements below, and be able to commit to the necessary rehearsal schedules and participation fees which help defray the costs of rehearsals, costumes, theater rental, technical staff and equipment. These fees do not apply to the WBCDA year-end showcase where we invite all students enrolled at Wayne Ballet to perform. Pre professional students 18 and over who wish to participate in WBT may audition in September or by appointment.
Students in Pre Ballet , Ballet 1 and Ballet 2 are invited to audition for Nutcracker as long as they meet their respective class requirements and are enrolled for the entire school year. Spring Ballet auditions are open to Levels 1 and up only.
- Junior company members must be in level Ballet 3 or higher and are required to take a minimum of 3 ballet classes each week and at least one class in modern or jazz.
- Senior Company members must be in level Ballet 4 or higher with a minimum of four ballet classes and three additional classes in modern, jazz or ballet weekly.
- Members must attend classes throughout the summer.
In addition to our 2 ballets, advanced company members meeting all requirements may also be invited to represent Wayne Ballet in prestigious ballet competitions throughout the year, including YAGP (Youth American Grand Prix) and NBC (National Ballet Competition). Invitation to these competitions is at the discretion of the Director and will only be extended to dancers also performing in WBT company ballets.
